Hi Everybody!!
I am getting ready to leave for Colorado... should get there by this weekend, hopefully!!
How are you guys feeling?
We got here from the Katy trail-- it was breathlessly beautiful... full of green and bikes!! (Pictures will update sometime soon!!)
I went to Starbucks in Olathe, Kansas to meet deaf people (a few hearing people went as well) we stayed there from 7pm to almost 10:30PM ( we were supposed to leave at 9pm but ofc Deaf Standard Time- DST! haha)
Before going to Starbucks for a gathering, we, including Tanna Jo Kolb, Marie Qualls, and Marie's mother, Sue went to Kansas School for the Deaf because both Israeli guys did not have a chance to go a school for the deaf in the United States. Both noticed so many different things between American's school for the deaf and Israeli's school for the deaf. Afterwards, We went to the Deaf Cultural Center (DCC). The DDC is a museum of Deaf History and Deaf Culture. Arlene Kuschmider gave us a tour of the center. We also learned more about our Deaf culture and identity. We went around the museum and we saw this really old TTY/teletype writer machine from the 1950's. It was really fascinating! Both guys learned more about Deaf culture and history, more importantly the legendary Dummy Hoy. They did not know about the Dummy Hoy legend.
Rebbeca Rosenthal and Sandra Kelly both coordinated an event for a gathering at Starbucks. Around 25-30 people came and listened to our stories, enjoying our stories over coffee! (I NEED THE OTHER ONE! haha) We left with 150 dollars worth of donations.
SO many people were very curious about our experiences and about the Global Deaf Women Retreat on Oct 22-25th.
Right now, we are heading to Denver, Colorado!!
Please go to SNAPVRS for a few minutes to take a look... http://www.snapvrs.com/
and www.gdwretreat.com to learn more about the retreat!
I also will give a nutrition workshop during the retreat!
We are all ready to go!
Thank you Kansasians!

You guys are the most amazing people I ever met. I am so glad you guys are now a part of my life, seriously. Now the house is empty, and we don't like that. Ha ha
ReplyDeleteThank you (ALL) for share the utterly inspiring experience stories you told. Surely looking forward to see you all again!
We also enjoyed having you all in our house. It was absolutely a fun filled days.
